Unprepared

So, I am going into the next game a bit unprepared, but I will make it through.  I have had some issues going on in the last two weeks that has kept me from doing the preparedness I have come to expect from myself.  But here we are, I have a game to run.  Having experience in story telling from previous games has made it easy to “wing it” but using roll 20, I am not winging it as much as I think.  I have done prep work for the dungeon that the group is in and they are now facing a creature that will cause them a bit of trouble.  And the session is only scheduled to be 4 hours. So, I am hoping that what I had planned already will last.  As a GM you should also look at what would happen if something like this happened to you.  Having a plan whether written or just in your head as to what is going to happen over the course of the next couple of games.  This could be something as simple as the game boards that you’re going to use. I could also mean creating NPC’s as soon as you think you might need them, or even creating some NPC’s that you have not found a use for, not saying that you need to have them completely fleshed out just yet.  Keep in mind that as the GM, you’re not going to get it right all the time and sometimes winging it is a good thing.  If your set-in stone with what your going to do, then you miss the point of the spontaneousness that makes the game interesting.  Being willing to accept the fact of just running out of time and having to be a bit more spontaneous with your game should heighten the thrill of the game for you the GM as well.
